Round Table: How to counter the recession and the economic crisis through purchases

Organised by ADACI, Italian Procurement Management Association

If the crisis is to be overcome, the credit squeeze implemented by banks must be slackened and market demand be stimulated.

Achieving the latter objective requires reducing overheads and improving the quality of the goods and services offered by companies to make them more appealing to clients.  In other words, the effectiveness and efficiency of everything arriving from outside the company - that in many cases involves 70% of company revenue - must be increased. Category management models must be implemented.

A management process of supplies derived from large-scale distribution that, through long-term relationships with suppliers and systematic activity of international and inter-company work groups, helps eliminate superfluous stocks, waste and activities not generating added value as well as improving products and processes.

The old approach to purchases is well and truly out of date!

Improved competitiveness of the business system requires focusing the main supplies on a few partners and working with them to reduce costs and improve products.

All this was also confirmed during the recent World Summit in Las Vegas by economic analysts, experts in the world of work and world-famous researchers.

Discussants:

Giovanni Atti, Donato Gianantoni, Giovanni Arletti, Marco Fattorini
